About North Park

North Park is a culturally diverse community in San Diego, California. It’s known for the huge sign that is located in the heart of this neighborhood. The sign is visible from University Avenue and 30th Street. It marks the downtown area and is a replica. The original was destroyed in the 1960s.

North Park is comprised of a variety of homes both historical and newer construction. The Dryden Historic District has many estates that were designed by David Owen Dryden. The Morley Field region has many California and Craftsman bungalows. North Park also includes neighborhoods like Altadena and Burlingame. This community is bounded by Balboa Park, Switzer Canyon, Florida Street, El Cajon Boulevard, and Interstate 805.

The San Diego Unified School District is the second largest in the state. Students attend facilities like Roosevelt International Middle School and Hoover High School as well as McKinley Elementary School. There are hundreds of private institutions like the Calvary Christian Academy, Escondido Adventists Academy, the Montessori American School, and Halstrom Academy. Public universities include the University of California (UCSD) and San Diego State University (SDSU) as well as the San Diego Community College District.

There are many stores throughout this area like Sprouts Farmers Market, North Park Nursery, and Hillcrest Market. The Balboa Golf Course offers a nine-hole golf course. And this community is minutes away from the San Diego Zoo and the United States Navy Medical Center.

San Diego is California’s second largest city and the nation’s eighth. Its economy relies on tourism, manufacturing, international trade, and military defense related activities. The top employers include the United States Navy, UCSD, Sharp HealthCare, and San Diego County. This city is known for museums like the San Diego Air & Space Museum, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the San Diego Natural History Museum.
